Ireland Indoor Lacrosse Training

We had our first training session as an indoor team since the try outs back in November on Saturday. If there is one thing I am going to take away from the training is that bicep pads are essential.

I should have know that before, but I thought I might get away with it on Saturday. I most certainly did not. My arms are now multi-coloured with bruises and they are so sore, I can barely move them. Lesson well and truly learned.

We had an hour long session of drills, including a one-on-one drill which is where most of the damage to my arms came from. People really enjoyed hitting one spot on my left arm over and over again, which was nice. One-on-one drills are a nice little test of your fitness level. I was absolutely dying after them, as were most people.

We moved on to a 2 hour game. We played 5 on 5 with two subs each. One of our subs left at half time which made a huge difference in the second half. You could tell we were a man down, especially when it came to any sort of transition play. We were solid in the first half, with plenty of talk on defense and some good pick and rolls on attack. I had 4 assists which is unusual, normally I have zero points a game so it was nice to get on the sheet.

One of the assists did not deserve it at all. I made a blind, one-handed, under arm pass across the crease based on the fact I heard someone call for the ball. Bit of a stupid play, but it paid off and would have definitely made the highlight reel, if there was one.

I have put in an order for bicep pads, which I will have for the next day. I also received a RBK 7K shaft courtesy of ProLaxShop.com which was great. I can't wait to play with it, because it seems like a beast of a stick.
